Procedure

Startup

  1. Check over the machine for unsafe conditions.
  2. Check that the four bolts attaching the basin to the machine are snug and secure.
  3. Check which basin you should be using. They should be labelled ductile iron or aluminum.
  4. For aluminum use the colloidal solution and wet the pad, For iron, also wet the pad but then put about a ¼ inch layer of water on top.
  5. NOTE: This machine is only meant to be used for the very final step of polishing.

Mounts

  1. Place the mount into the proper sample holder using the recessed holes in the mounting device.{A,B}
  2. Tighten the set screw only until the mount is firmly tight, not too far.
  3. Carefully place the sample holder along the outer edge of the basin. {C}

Operation

  1. After ensuring the vibration setting is set at 0, turn on the machine.
  2. Slowly adjust the vibration until the sample holder makes a revolution approximately every ten seconds.
  3. Wait 30-60 minutes, longer for harder materials.

Shutdown

  1. Once stopped, remove sample holder with sample.
  2. Place them both into the ultrasonic cleaner.
  3. Remove mount from holder.
  4. Remove basin assembly from machine by unscrewing the four hex head bolts. Immediately replace the bolts on the machine.
  5. Wash the basin assembly under the sink.
  6. Place in ziplock bag to maintain moisture.
  7. Clean the work area.
