Safety

  • Pans are HOT when taken out of the oven. Handle only with oven mitts. Never use your bare hands.

Making the Polymer

  1. Preheat the oven to 450 F.
  2. Put cornstarch in an appropriately sized zip-lock bag.
  3. Add water, and oil.
    • The type of cooking oil does not make a difference in the outcome
  4. Seal the bag and knead for 3 minutes to mix all of the ingredients.
  5. Coat the bottom of a baking pan with oil to prevent sticking.
  6. Pour the contents of the mixture into the baking pan.
  7. Place the pan in the oven until the top begins ton crackle.
  8. Remove the pan from the oven.
    • Leave sample in pan until firm to touch
  9. Cut out desired shape with a knife.

Standard Recipe

  1. Optimum ratio to use
    • 1 cup cornstarch
    • 0.8 cups water
    • 1/8 cups oil
    • Oven time is 8 minutes
    • Cooling time is 48 hours
  2. Mixture ratios that result in nonviable outcomes
    • If the cornstarch to water ratio exceeds 2:1
    • If cornstarch to water ratio is less than 1:2
