This SOP describes the process of machining Section A from a one-inch y-block. This SOP references the ASTM A536 - 84 "Standard Specification for Ductile Iron Castings".

Safety Concerns

  • Ensure fingers and debris are clear from blade
  • Ensure sample is secure in clamps to prevent movement
  • Have necessary PPE safety glasses, green jacket, and steel-toed boots
  • Report any problems to Russ Stein

SSFDI Hacksaw Procedure

  1. Inspect blade and equipment before hand for any damage
  2. Measure from the bottom of the y-block 1 1/8 inch
  3. Position y-block horizontally and align blade to the measured position
  4. Secure y-block with clamps
  5. Position water hoses to aim at the y-block to give proper lubrication
  6. Turn on hacksaw
  7. Machine will automatic shut off when finished

Pay attention, hit the kill switch if the machine doesn't stop to prevent the blade going into the bed
