This Page is to cover all the required safety information for the M&M 329 Fanuc Robot system. Use of this equipment is restricted and you must see Russ Stein before use. Don't be dumb.

Upon reading this SOP and understanding the content continue to robot operation SOP found on the main page.

Hazard Analysis Spreadsheet

Hazard Analysis: Stage One

A hazard analysis for the Fanuc WAAM robot is included to the right. The Task shown in blue on the first row is an example used for this analysis and does not pertain to the use of the Robot. This analysis was completed by the Mercury Marine Components team to determine any potential hazards that could occur while operating the robot. Stage Two to be included in the future

Robot Motion Hazard

The R1000iA/80f robot is a 6 Axes, 80 kg payload robot, with a reach of ~2.23 m. Getting caught by the arm can potentially crush or kill the human body. Operation of the machine in auto mode will be done outside the fence with the door closed. While programming and running the robot while not in auto mode, the dead-man switch must be depressed halfway.

Electrical Hazard

To avoid electrical shock be aware of live wires and the welder connections. Be sure to have a clean ground connection by brushing the connection area and substrate clamp.

Heat Hazard

1st to 3rd degree burns are possible. During and after welding, all surfaces on the welding table and welding nozzle should be treated as hot. Use proper tools to remove the substrate or let it cool and remove after. Either way it should be labeled as a hot surface with a note.

Light Hazard

Looking directly at a weld arc can cause blindness, don't do it. Welding makes are available in the cabinet next to the controller box, and a welding screen is located in the room for use.

Gas / Pressurized Systems Hazards

An Argon CO2 mixture is used as a flux while welding parts. If left unchecked this gas can cause asphyxiation. Be sure to turn on the ventilation hoods to keep the area well ventilated. Be aware of your own condition and if any light headedness occurs get the area ventilated immediately.

Guarding & PPE

Proper PPE while operating the machine is required. This included steel toe boots, long pants, long sleeve shirts, gloves while handling hot parts, welding mask and/or welding screen, and safety glasses. Any clothing should be relatively tight, and made of non synthetic material. Be sure the ventilation system is running and the weld screen is in place before doing any welding with the robot.
